This spring, Dr. Anat Lubetzky was interviewed by Reuters about her research on treating Physical Therapy patients with balance issues with virtual reality and a responsive floor mat, which she is currently conducting in collaboration with Dr. Ken Perlin, a computer science professor at NYU Courant. In the study, patients use a pressure sensing mat and don a virtual reality headset to practice ducking and avoiding objects and obstructions while maintaining balance in a virtual cityscape. The mat works as a sort of video camera for pressure, and can measure how a patient uses their feet for balance.
