Making the List: NYU Steinhardt Celebrates Its Most Influential Student

Grace Moon

The Washington Square News, the official daily student newspaper of NYU, has released its annual Influential Students feature, and Grace Moon is among eleven NYU students who made the list.  The students chosen “work tirelessly to strengthen the diverse communities that surround them.”  Moon, a junior in Steinhardt’s Department of Media, Culture, and Communication, was chosen for activism and journalism that strives to advance opportunity for Asian-Americans.

Moon is highly regarded by her peers and is known for channeling her passion for North Korean issue into campus engagement.  In her role as president of Freedom for North Korea, she leads weekly meetings to make North Korea a subject of campus dialogue.

She currently serves as an intern at the CNN News Bureau and as editor-in-chief of NYU’s chapter of HerCampus, an online media platform for women’s empowerment.

“Every day I’m defined as a stereotype,” Moon has said. “Journalism helps me defy that stereotype by speaking out on issues and reporting issues that are important.”
