Grammy-Award winner Terri Lyne Carrington and SNL percussionist Valarie Naranjo will be among the leading artists conducting performances and workshops at the NYU/KoSA/Hit Like a Girl Day of Percussion, devoted this year exclusively to female performers. The annual event, which is free and open to the public, will take place Saturday, February 13th from 11:30 a.m. – 9 p.m. at NYU Steinhardt’s Frederick Loewe Theatre.
Presented in partnership with Hit Like a Girl and KoSA Music, the program is designed by Jonathan Haas, Director of NYU Percussion Studies; Aldo Mazza, Director of KoSA; and David Levine, Director of Hit Like a Girl. The event is being produced by NYU Steinhardt Percussion Studies majors Rose Egan and Luz Carime Santa-Coloma.
In addition to Carrington and Naranjo, featured performers will include artists such as the UK’s Cherisse Osei (Bryan Ferry); 2015 Hit Like A Girl winner Lindsay Artkop; Katy Clinch and the Juilliard Pre-College Percussion Ensemble; Reynaliz Herrera; Palladium Percussion; the School of Rock All-Girl All Star Band; and Julie Spencer with Aldo Mazza. The program will encompass spotlight and improvised performances, as well as interactive demonstrations.
Tickets are available at the door and pre-registration is not required. All ages are welcome.
