NYU Steinhardt Recommends: Trisha Donnelly Artist’s Choice at MoMA

This winter season, NYU Steinhardt recommends a trip to New York City’s Museum of Modern Art to see Artist’ Choice:  Trisha Donnelly.

Donnelly, clinical associate professor of studio art at NYU Steinhardt, is the tenth artist to participate in MoMA’s Artist’s Choice series, for which contemporary artists are invited to organize an exhibition drawn entirely from MoMA’s collection.  Donnelly’s choices are on view in the Alfred H. Barr, Jr. Painting and Sculpture Galleries.

On the fifth floor Donnelly’s selections encompass a broad range of periods, styles, and mediums. From a Matthew Brady photograph of Ulysses Grant to “Anfibio Convertible Couch” by Alessandro Becchi, the “works in configuration are crowded, but this is necessary,” Donnelly says.

“We are running out of time and each of these works holds in it an infinite mass of exactly that time…Each one is an epic entity.”
