The fourth installment of the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication’s “Inside the Internet Garage” will kick-off with famous computer publisher, digital intellectual, and originator of the phrase “Web 2.0,” Tim O’Reilly. “Inside the Internet Garage” traces the history of Internet media and explores society’s networked future with some of the industry’s most accomplished contributors.
“Tim O’Reilly may be the Internet’s most prolific intellectual,” said Aaron Cohen, adjunct professor and founding director of INC@NYU. “He has published widely on nearly all of the most important trends in the past 20 years and we could spend 100 hours interviewing him. This session is certain to be informative and inspiring.”
O’Reilly is the current CEO and founder of O’Reilly Media Inc.
The series forms part of the new NYU Steinhardt Initiative for Internet and Network Culture (INC@NYU), housed within the school’s Department of Media, Culture, and Communication. Through industry-university partnerships it will serve as a nexus for scholars, entrepreneurs, and media analysts interested in the technologies, business practices, and social processes of Internet and network culture. Former guests have included Eric Hippeau, former Huffington Post CEO; Jay Walker, founder of Priceline.com; and Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg, co-founders of AllThingsD and technology reporters for the Wall Street Journal.
