Niyati Parekh Named American Cancer Society Research Scholar

Niyati Parekh, an assistant professor in the Department of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health, has been named a Cancer Society Research Scholar by the American Cancer Society.  The lifetime designation recognizes the contributions that Parekh, a nutritional epidemiologist, has made on behalf of cancer research.  In 2011, Parekh, received a $720,000 grant from the American Cancer Society to study the role of insulin in obesity-related cancers.  Parekh’s study, “The cancer, insulin resistance and lifestyle study, in the Framingham Heart Study Population,” examines the separate and combined impact of blood markers, genetic factors, and diet related to insulin and glucose metabolism in the development of obesity-related cancers.
