Steinhardt to Workshop ‘Pool Boy’ Musical at Provincetown Playhouse

NYU Steinhardt’s Program in Vocal Performance will present a workshop production of Pool Boy, a musical, in at the Provincetown Playhouse March 22 – 25.  Directed by faculty member John Simpkins, its score is by Niko Tsakalakos and book by Janet Allard.

The musical is based on Tsakalakos’ experience as a pool boy in Los Angeles, and is about a young New Jersey songwriter’s hopes and dreams for glamour, ambition, and love.

The Steinhardt production has been funded by a writer’s residency grant from the National Alliance for Musical Theatre, and will serve as a teaching moment for NYU students.

“Working on a new musical offers young actors an opportunity to to learn and develop a very specific set of skills,” said Simpkins. “It is our hope that each spring we can offer our students a chance to understand this unique acting opportunity and aid in the development of new musicals.”
