Steinhardt’s Choirs Perform in Beijing, China

Steinhardt’s Madrigal Singers and Jazz Choir performed at the 29th World Conference of the International Society of Music Education in Beijing, China in August. The two groups were among seven selected to represent the United States at the biannual international conference.

“Our students represented NYU Steinhardt, New York City and the USA magnificently, both in their concerts and their interaction with the Chinese people and those from other countries,” said Nancy Shankman, a graduate advisor in Steinhart’s Music Education Program. “We are very proud of our singers!”

The Madrigal Singers, directed by Nancy Shankman, is a small coed ensemble of 12-16 singers dedicated to the joy of singing a diverse a capella repertoire. The Jazz Choir. directed by Ira Shankman, sings a wide range of jazz and contemporary music styles accompanied by jazz instrumentalists.
