Open Heart, a new play by Joe Salvatore, a teacher of educational theatre at the Steinhardt School, will open at the New York International Fringe Festival on August 19th. Open Heartexplores the experiences of gay couples living in open, non-monogamous relationships. Salvatore, who also directed the play, interviewed 13 couples and a therapist to learn how men in open relationships define monogamy. Using interview transcripts and audio recordings as guides, five actors portray men who express a range of feelings on fidelity, sex, and being a couple.
“The stories range from shocking to hilarious to utterly heartfelt and speak volumes about how any relationship works,” Salvatore said.
