Laura O'Brien received her basic nursing education at the Mount Sinai School of Nursing and a BA in Health Care Administration and a Masters Degree in Health Care Administration both from The New School. Laura has been a practicing RN since November of 1971. Her clinical practice has been diverse, but most of her clinical practice has been specialized in critical care and cardiology. She is currently a Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Beth Israel Medical Center. Immediately prior to joining Beth Israel she was a program coordinator in the Nursing Education Department at Mount Sinai Hospital for a special retraining program for nurses form the former Soviet Union.

Since joining Beth Israel in 1993 she have been involved in many formal educational programs in both program/lecture development and instruction and in curriculum development and revision. She has been extensively involved with the Medical Center's Critical Care Course in the ECG, Cardiovascular, and Pulmonary modules. Her role as CNS involves multiple educational responsibilities most often based on individual clinical unit or practitioner needs. Laura is credentialed as a BCLS and ACLS Instructor by the American Heart Association.
