Joann Ferrara is a physical therapy graduate of the University of Vermont. She has been in her own private practice since 1979 specializing in the treatment of adults and children with orthopedic and neuromuscular diagnoses. Her personal specialization is in the treatment of infants and children, especially in the provision of outreach to elementary school children regarding physical disabilities. Joann is a Physical Therapy Coordinator for the Association For Children with Down Syndrome where she has developed home and center based programs using a transdisciplinary model for examination and treatment of children from birth to 5. She has written federal and community grants to enhance services and has designed preschool sensory- motor playgrounds. Joann serves as a Consultant Physical Therapist for Schneider Children's Hospital, where her role is examination and treatment in neonatal, bone marrow transplant- oncology, and intensive care units. She has developed a most unique ballet program for physically challenged children between the ages of 3 and 7 that was highlighted in a Today Show segment. Joann has taught at several institutions and is on the Advisory Board of the Association For Children With Down Syndrome.
