Joan Edelstein teaches in the Prescription, Application, and As Appropriate, Fabrication of Assistive, Adaptive, Orthotic, Protective, Supportive, and Prosthetic Devices and Equipment course in our DPT program. She is a Special Lecturer and former Associate Professor of Clinical Physical Therapy and Director of the Program in Physical Therapy at Columbia University. She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in physical therapy at New York University where she also taught prosthetics and orthotics. Her research projects encompass lower- and upper-limb prostheses and orthoses for older adults and children. She conducts continuing education courses throughout North America and abroad. Professor Edelstein has published many journal articles and book chapters in all phases of prosthetics and orthotics, including the best-selling book, Orthotics: A Comprehensive Clinical Approach, the new CD-ROM, Orthotics: An Interactive Tutorial, and the forthcoming book, Prosthetics and Patient Management: A Comprehensive Clinical Approach. She has served or is continuing to serve on the editorial boards of Journal of Rehabilitation Research and Development (Associate Editor), Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Physical and Occupational Therapy in Geriatrics, Topics in Geriatric Rehabilitation, and Journal of the Association of Children's Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinics (Editor). She is a Fellow of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics.
