Are the prices the same for the remote version of the workshops?
The price for the Film Scoring Workshop has been reduced from $1900 to $1200 (Participant) and $600 to $550 (auditors). All other workshop prices remain the same.
Why aren’t all of the workshops discounted now that they are being held remotely?
In order to cover the cost of personnel running the workshops remotely. In addition, we will be offering multiple one-on-one additional sessions during the workshops to complement our offering. In the case of the Film Scoring Workshop, a significant part of that workshop historically has been recording sessions, and since we will not be able to offer that, we determined it is only right to discount that workshop significantly. We have filled that space with other great content, but that content does not have quite the same overhead as producing multiple recording sessions in NYC!
I live in a different timezone from New York city. Will I still be able to participate?
In order to make the workshops as accessible to as many time zones as possible, we have condensed all workshop proceedings to occur approximately between the hours of 11:00am and 4:00pm EST.
What is a typical daily schedule now that everything is remote?
We have published early versions of each workshop schedule below, but all workshop proceedings should occur approximately between the hours of 11:00am and 4:00pm EST. Each day will include a carefully curated mix of guest presentations with designated time to ask questions and connect personally with our guests, critiques by industry professionals, lectures, and hands-on learning activities.
How are you operating remotely?
We will be using Zoom, a remote conferencing tool. Zoom is also the only reliable, ubiquitous, platform that allows for significant sound reproduction. NYU Staff are fully prepared to facilitate all aspects of the workshop with excellent musical fidelity.
During the workshops, you will have the privileges of a NYU student and have access to the full version of Zoom.
What if I don’t know how to use Zoom?
NYU Staff will be available to train and troubleshoot participants through basic and advanced zoom operation.
I was looking for a hands-on experience when I applied to these workshops. How will you address that?
We have considered that deeply, since this is one of the things we care about most in our program. To that end, we have added multiple optional one-on-one meetings with NYU staff to every workshop. In these meetings you will have a Zoom “room” in which you have the opportunity to ask personalized questions about the technology you see demonstrated, workflow, tips on your production and your music preparation, etc. Additionally, NYU has made an in depth study of the tools available in Zoom and have discovered some clever ways to make remote learning as hands on as possible - we will show you how you can even operate demos we show you remotely from your own screen to try out techniques we teach, right from your home.
I was hoping this could be a good networking opportunity in New York. Can that happen remotely?
Yes! In fact, we are looking forward to introducing you to some top industry composers we may not have been able to introduce you to before because of the travel involved. Now, we are excited to give you the opportunity to meet and speak personally with composers across the coast and even the globe. We like to think of this as an expansion beyond the confines of New York City.
I already made a housing deposit. Will I get that back?
That will be refunded. If you have not already been contacted, you can email MPAP Summer and they will take care of it : firstname.lastname@example.org
What if NYU still has to cancel the workshops? Will I still get my money back?
Yes, if for some reason NYU cannot run the workshop you are enrolled in, you will be refunded fully.
