For summer 2020, this workshop has been combined with the Summer Jazz Improv Workshop and will run remotely as the Summer Jazz Improv and Composers Workshop from July 13-24.

An intensive, 5-day workshop for intermediate and advanced level students, the course examines composition, arranging and orchestration techniques for jazz ensembles. Students will write their own compositions during the workshop that will be performed on the final day. Daily classes and lectures will be held by the NYU Steinhardt Jazz Studies Program composition faculty consisting of Alan Broadbent, Gil Goldstein, Alan Ferber and Rich Shemaria and special guest artist, saxophonist & composer Tom Scott. Private lessons with the faculty will be available by request.

Please submit full ensemble scores and accompanying mp3s/recordings of two or three original compositions or original arrangements. Scores should be formatted as pdfs.
