18th-Century Counterpoint

Study of compositional approaches in the 18th century. Students will engage with 18th-century practice through analysis and model composition.

2D Fundamentals

An exploration in the studio of a variety of contemporary processes, techniques, and experiences in drawing with a variety of making implements. Assigned independent work, term project, and field trips to galleries and museums.

2D Fundamentals II

An exposure to and exploration of a variety of contemporary processes, techniques, and experiences in drawing in a wide array of drawing media. Assignments include directed work, independent work, projects, critiques, field trips to galleries and museums and includes projects in color theory. This course in a continuation of ART-UE 107.

3D Fundamentals I

Explores the medium of sculpture through the principles of three-dimensional design and the concepts that drive developments in contemporary art. Projects may include welding, mold making, and the use of wood working tools, as well as the use of sculpture as costume, performance, environment, or kinetic form. Students use a variety of materials from wood and cardboard to metal, plaster, and found objects to expand their understanding of form and space.

4D Fundamentals I

Course introduces student artists to the 4th dimensional concepts of TIME and MOVEMENT as the necessary building blocks of Art created by Photography, Video, Digital and Performance medias. Students will explore the attributes of TIME and MOVEMENT through project assignments that use the methods of photography, video, digital, and performance art. The course also includes a brief art history of 4D concepts spanning a wide array of subject matter from cave painting to contemporary art.

4D Fundamentals II

Course builds on 4D Fundamentals I focusing on TIME, MOVEMENT and BODY together as the foundational basis for advanced art making using various medias. Concepts of MOVEMENT develop into an examination of the BODY as a means to create art. Students will explore each concept using the methods of photography, video, digital and performance. Course includes a brief art history of the BODY spanning an array of subject matter from cave painting through Surrealism to contemporary performance artists.

Abnormal Psychology

Theories, conceptions, and descriptions of psychopathology with an emphasis on the interrelationship of diagnosis and treatment, theories of symptoms formation, and criteria of normality.

Acoustic Phonetics

A broad-based study of acoustic phonetics including acoustic theory and measurement; distinctive feature systems; integration of physiologic and perceptual characteristics with concomitant acoustic features.

Acting I for Singers

A Stanislavski based course introducing fundamental acting technique and stage convention through the integration of improvisation, monologs, scene study, speech and movement.

Acting II for Singers

Continuation of skills and concepts introduced in Acting I for Singers with an increased focus on character development, interaction and heightened language.

Acting III for Singers

An intensive practicum course building on the skills introduced in Acting I and Acting II for Singers, with increased focus on acting styles for contemporary and classical theatre.

Acting: Character Study

An advanced exploration into the tools and techniques of creating character within the context of the 'world of the play.' Through script analysis and attention to style, students will learn how to create the imaginary world in which the character lives. Scenes will be selected from both contemporary and classical genres.

Acting: Fundamentals

This course offers a foundation upon which to build the technique needed to do the actors job: to live truthfully under the imaginary circumstances of the play. In this Stanislavski/Uta Hagen based approach, students participate in a guided study of self-observation and apply discoveries to scene work.

Acting: Scene Study

In this course students will continue the exploration begun in Acting: Fundamentals with in-depth scene and monologue preparation from the contemporary stage. Studio work will focus on the given circumstances, creating a physical life for the character, and miming the relationships that drive the play.

Adolescent Development

Physical, intellectual, social, and psychosexual of adolescent development. Attention to youth from diverse racial/ethnic and sociocultural backgrounds. Applications and implications for schooling and for prevention and intervention programs directed at psychosocial problems in adolescence are discussed.

Advanced Composition

An advanced course in expository writing for all students, especially those concerned with writing in school settings. Hours are arranged for individual counseling.

Advanced Foods

Principles and practice of identification, comparison, and evaluation of selected foods, ingredients, techniques, and equipment for recipe formulation, menu planning, or preparation with an emphasis on modifications to meet specific nutritional or other requirements.

Advanced Hip Hop Dance Culture

This dance course explores the fifth element of Hip Hop Culture, "Knowledge of self" through progressive movement vocabulary within Hip Hop/Street Dance Culture. Focusing on Hip Hop as a method to endorse cultural exchange and awareness. Individuals critically reflect on the social change, political impact and the evolution of Hip Hop Culture. This course promotes the application of Hip Hop/street dance to inspire, empower, develop self-consciousness, identify social issues and examine the integration of all elements across multiple intelligences.
