Laura Bullon-Cassis is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication at New York University. She is an outreach officer in the Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy and a visiting fellow in the Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy and in the Department of Anthropology and Sociology at The Graduate Institute in Geneva, Switzerland. Laura is interested in new forms of transnational collaboration that are emerging in the climate emergency, such as those relating to digital and visual communications, and the ways in which these challenge or complement established processes of political cooperation such as multilateral diplomacy. As part of her doctoral dissertation, she has conducted fieldwork with youth activists in United Nations climate summits in New York, Madrid, and Nairobi, with a focus on how youth, as a symbol, is leveraged in these settings.

Laura teaches interdisciplinary courses on topics related to sustainability and media studies at Pratt Institute and New York University. As a writer for the International Institute for Sustainable Development’s (IISD) Reporting Services, Laura regularly attends UN environmental conferences worldwide. These have included negotiations for the Global Pact for the Environment, the UN Environment Assembly, the UN Climate Action Summit, and the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. She holds an MSc in Global Politics and a BSc in Sociology from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and has held roles at the academic journal Public Culture, the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III), the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), and the PR firm Edelman. She has published her work in academic and media outlets, including OpenDemocracyGlobal Policy Journal and The Global Journal.
