Frieda J. Behlen Occupational Therapy Scholarship Fund

The Frieda J. Behlen Occupational Therapy Scholarship Fund was initiated to honor the memory of Frieda J. Behlen, founder and longtime chair of our Department of Occupational Therapy.

Thanks to alumni support, we are proud to have been able to create an endowment fund to provide tuition aid during the summer semester, a time when other financial aid tends to be reduced. Income generated by the endowment is awarded annually to two second-year MS or MS/OTD students who demonstrate superior academic achievement as well as financial need.

With the growth of the endowment's principal, we have been able to gradually increase the award from $1,000 per recipient to $3,000. Our hope is that we will be able to further increase the size and number of these awards with your generosity.

Deborah R. Labovitz Occupational Therapy Enhancement Fund

The Deborah R. Labovitz Occupational Therapy Enhancement Fund honors the memory of Dr. Labovitz as a teacher and leader during her twenty-year service as Chair of the Department. The fund enables us to allocate resources for enrichment projects that encourage innovation and growth in the field of occupational therapy, the legacy of Dr. Labovitz.

The fund provides the impetus for supplemental activities that will enhance the professional and academic growth of the Department for the benefit of current students, faculty, alumni, and the larger occupational therapy community.

Karen Buckley Fund for Community Service and Learning

The Karen Buckley Fund for Community Service and Learning was created following the retirement of Clinical Assistant Professor Karen Buckley after more than 32 years of dedication to our department. She taught over 20 different courses during her time at NYU Steinhardt, including a seminar on community outreach. To honor Dr. Buckey’s legacy, donations to this fund support student service projects.
