NYU Steinhardt

Dear Friends,

In a few weeks students will arrive on campus. Here, at NYU Steinhardt, we are preparing for their arrival, and I write to let you know about some activities we have planned to welcome your family into our community.

We Welcome You Here on August 27th

After our students unpack their bags on Move-In Day, August 27th, they will participate in Welcome Week, a week of fun and activities, NYU style. Students can take walking tours of New York City, participate in community service projects, and attend the NYU Reality Show (written by and for students), and the NYU President’s Welcome.

On August 28th, I will greet our new students at the NYU Steinhardt Deans’ Welcome hosted by our Office of Student Affairs. This will also be a chance for our students to meet their academic advisers and orientation leaders in person.

You can meet our orientation leaders, too, in this special Parent & Family video they’ve created just for you.

We’re Reading Outcasts United

All new Steinhardt students are required to read Warren St. John's Outcasts United: An American Town, A Refuge Team, and one Woman's Quest to Make a Difference, and we also invite you to read it. The book offers us a window into others' lives and is a universal story about how each of us finds our place in the world. We will discuss the book in our New Student Seminar, and we’ll come together in October for a special academic convocation to discuss the book’s impact with the author and our distinguished faculty.

Visit Us on Campus: Parents Day, October 21st

We hope to see you again on Saturday, October 21, 2017 for Parents Day at NYU. Over breakfast, you’ll hear more about our academic programs, meet our distinguished faculty, and get an update on your student’s curriculum. We will send you more details as the date approaches.

Ways to Stay in Touch

College is a time of mixed emotions for both parents and students, a time of wanting to send a text message and also realizing it’s probably better to give them some space. At NYU Steinhardt, we recognize that you might want to stay connected to the college experience and so we happily invite you to like us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram and Twitter.

And if you do have any questions or concerns, please contact our Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Patricia Carey, by email at patricia.carey@nyu.edu or by phone at 212-998-5065.

Wishing you all the best as you count down to the first day of college,

Dominic Brewer
Gale and Ira Drukier Dean
