It was announced this week that Music Composition alum Alex Weiser was one of the two finalists for the 2020 Pulitzer Prize in Music for and all the days were purple, his settings of Yiddish and English poems for voice, piano, percussion, and string trio. While a master’s student in our program, he studied with Music Composition program Artistic Director Julia Wolfe and Artist Faculty Michael Gordon. Julia Wolfe, a 2015 Pulitzer Prize winner for her oratorio Anthracite Fields, called Weiser “a terrific presence in our Music Composition Program. Prizes aside - I have been so proud of all that Alex has done.”
