Department Awards 2019

The Department of Media, Culture, and Communication is pleased to announce the winners of its undergraduate and graduate departmental awards. To feature this talented group, we updated the classic Proust Questionnaire and collected their candid responses.

What reading produced the biggest aha moment? Professor Hegde's book Mediating Migration because it helped foster my interest in migration studies.
If you could meet any scholar, dead or alive, who would it be? Tough question! Zygmunt Bauman, Stuart Hall or Sylvia Wynter.
What news source could you not live without? If MCC has taught me anything, then I need multiple news sources! So, probably Twitter or some news aggregate.

What reading produced the biggest aha moment? Sylvia Wynter's "Rethinking 'Aesthetics': Notes Toward a Deciphering Practice," which I came to from José Esteban Muñoz's "Ephemera as Evidence."

What reading produced the biggest aha moment? "Work, Consumerism and the New Poor" by Zygmunt Bauman, which I read for my Advertising & Societies course during my study abroad in Prague.
If you could meet any scholar, dead or alive, who would it be? Daniel Boorstin‚ who made me re-think everything I thought I knew about our contemporary culture.
What news source could you not live without? CNN, Vogue, the New York Times, the Skimm and obviously‚ Instagram.

What news source could you not live without? Honestly, I prefer the delivery method of news via social media outlets. Though biased at times, as with any news outlet, I feel that it allows me to see quick summaries of the news and how people are reacting to it at the same time.
