Yoav Halperin's Work on Israeli Digital Activism Wins Award

Doctoral student Yoav Halperin will receive the Best Student Paper award from the International Communication Association's Activism, Communication, and Social Justice interest group at its annual conference next month.

The paper, Counter-Populist Online Activism in Israel, analyzes a new form of resistance to the proliferation of right-wing populist discourse on social media. Halperin refers to it as counter-populist online activism, which he distinguishes from other types of digital dissent.

A sixth-year PhD student, Halperin is completing a dissertation examining the Political Imaginaries on Israeli Facebook. Halperin holds a BA in philosophy and history (cum laude) and an MA in philosophy from Tel Aviv University, where he focused on critical theory and phenomenology.
