Radha Hegde Recognized for Advancement of Feminist Scholarship

Professor Radha Hegde will receive the 2019 Teresa Award for the Advancement of Feminist Scholarship at the International Communication Association conference in Washington, DC on Monday, May 27. After Hegde's acceptance remarks, members of the audience will be invited to speak about her work and what it has meant to them. 

The award letter noted:

The Award Committee acknowledges you as the leading scholar on globalization, post-colonialism, culture, and media. We value your activist role and advocacy on gender justice and feminist initiatives beyond academia. We agree that your strongest impact is in understanding power through a post-colonial lens and engaging feminist theory through globalization and transnationalism.

Hegde’s research and teaching focus on migration, media flows, globalization and transnational feminism. She is the author of Mediating Migration, (Polity 2016) editor of Circuits of Visibility: Gender and Transnational Media Cultures (NYU Press, 2011) and co-editor of Routledge Handbook of the Indian Diaspora (2018). Her earlier work on gender identities and reproductive politics in south India include ethnographies conducted in south India on the subject of violence and motherhood.

Professor Hegde begins an appointment as the International Visiting Professor of Gender Studies at Freie Universität Berlin for the 2019 spring/summer semester.
