While pursuing her MA in Food Studies at NYU Steinhardt, alumna Amy Rothstein noticed a need for chai tea in the local market.

“I started asking baristas what chai they were using, and often times it would be a startling question,” Amy said. “No one was making a high-quality masala chai concentrate for the New York City coffee shop scene.”

Seeking to fill the void, Amy launched DONA Chai, a spice-based beverage company. While Amy leverages her food studies background handling recipes, product development, and marketing, her brother and co-founder, Peter (Stern '21), manages business operations.

The siblings now sell tea concentrates and sodas to over 1,000 accounts in the US, Canada, and Japan -- not to mention that they were included in this year’s Forbes 30 Under 30 list for food and drink.
