PAA Students Visit London

PAA studentsPerforming Arts Administration and Visual Arts Administration graduate students traveled to London during spring break to participate in the study abroad course “The Creative and Cultural Industries in the US and the UK.” Offered every year, this course deepened the students' understanding of how these industries have grown so rapidly and the role government has played in encouraging their development.

Accompanied by program director Dr. Richard Maloney, the students met with two London-based alumni, Deirdre Alby (class of 2010), a senior consultant at ARTHOUSE, a media agency for Broadway productions, and Yukiko Shishikura (class of 2006), a classical music artist manager at HarrisonParrott. The alumni engaged in a Q&A session about how they applied for jobs abroad, what it is like to live and work in a new country, and how their time at NYU prepared them to succeed in the global arts field.

In the mornings, students worked with senior faculty members from the Institute of Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship at Goldsmiths, University of London. In the afternoons, they met with leaders of major cultural centers, including: the Southbank Center, Battersea Arts Center, Somerset House, Cockpit Arts, and the Romanian Cultural Institute. In the evening, they visited museums and arts galleries and attended musicals, plays, concerts, theatre, and dance performances.
