The ACLU Summer Advocacy Institute
A Young Activist Summer Program in Washington, DC
 
The ACLU Advocacy Institute will bring together a diverse group of studentsfrom across the US to participate in week-long programs this summer.
 
Join other extraordinary students, in Washington, DC, to take part in this firsthand learning experience for the next generation of social justice advocates! 
 
The Summer Advocacy Institute offers two different programs:
 
Summer Advocacy Program
Saturday, July 20 - Friday, July 26, 2019
 
The ACLU Advocacy Institute’s Summer Advocacy Program will bring together a diverse group of high school students (ages 15-18) from across the United States to participate in a week-long program in Washington, DC. Students will learn directly from lawyers, lobbyists, community activists, and other experts working to defend the civil rights and civil liberties critical to a free and open society. In classroom sessions, lectures, and policy debates, students will explore the complex nature of issue advocacy, legal strategy, and real world political decision making in Washington, D.C.
 
Advanced Advocacy Program
Sunday, July 28 - Friday, August 2, 2019
 
The ACLU Advocacy Institute’s Advanced Advocacy Program will prepare college-aged students (ages 18-24) for lifelong engagement in grassroots organizing, policy development, and legal advocacy. This week-long program in Washington, DC is designed to engage Institute alumni, as well as other college students, to bring their advocacy skills and passion for campus organizing to the next level. Students will enhance their knowledge of civil liberties and social justice issues, as well as learn about internships and professional opportunities in public policy, law, communications, and social impact work to help them prepare for a career in the law and public service.
