Deborah Damast Received a 2017 Steinhardt Teaching Excellence Award

Clinical Assistant Professor of Dance Education Deborah Damast has been awarded a 2017 NYU Steinhardt Teaching Excellence Award. Professor Damast has been teaching in the Dance Education program since 2002. She has taught technique, pedagogy, creative movement, production, and choreography. She is the Artistic Adviser of the program and Director of dance concerts and the Kaleidoscope Dancers.

The award recognizes outstanding teachers who excel in teaching, mentoring, advising, and interrelating with students, colleagues, and alumni. Recipients demonstrate a record of outstanding teaching effectiveness both within and outside the classroom; the ability to inspire, promote, and sustain the intellectual development of students; and a pedagogical approach that is innovative, intellectually rigorous, creative, and engaging. Awardees also integrate their scholarly and professional work into the classroom in ways that foster critical thinking and challenge students to pursue independent inquiry, and take an active role in advising and mentoring students outside of the classroom.
