Dr. Sean Corcoran to Serve as an Advisor for the Research Alliance for New York City Schools

The Research Alliance is pleased to announce that Dr. Sean Corcoran has joined the organization as a Senior Technical Advisor. In this role, Dr. Corcoran will serve as a key member of the team providing technical review of Research Alliance analyses and input about its research agenda. “Sean has an extraordinary depth and breadth of knowledge,” said Dr. Jim Kemple, the Research Alliance’s executive director. “We are particularly excited to have someone of Sean’s caliber reviewing the technical merits of our work, and helping ensure that we are bringing highly rigorous research methods to bear on important questions for education policy and practice.”     

Dr. Corcoran is an associate professor of Economics and Education Policy at NYU Steinhardt. He has conducted studies examining such topics as teacher labor markets, school finance, and school choice. Dr. Corcoran has collaborated with the Research Alliance on a number projects and publications, including High School Choice in NYC: Assessing the Impact of Decision Supports for Low-Income Students, High School Choice in New York City: A Report on the School Choices and Placements of Low-Achieving Students, and Pathways to an Elite Education: Exploring Strategies to Diversify NYC's Specialized High Schools. Previously, he was an assistant professor of Economics at California State University, Sacramento (2003-05) and a visiting scholar at the Russell Sage Foundation (2005-06). In 2012-13, he was a visitor at the Center for Education Policy Analysis (CEPA) at Stanford University. Dr. Corcoran also serves on the editorial boards of the journals Education Finance & Policy, Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, and the American Educational Research Journal.        

Dr. Corcoran holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Maryland.
