Dr. Lawrence Aber awarded $393,888 subcontract from IRC funded by Dubai Cares

Dr. Lawrence Aber, co-Director of Global TIES for Children, and a team of researchers, including Carly Tubbs Dolan, were recently awarded a subcontract from the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in the amount of $393,888, which was provided through funding from Dubai Cares. This award supports the inception phase of a multi-year strategic initiative between the IRC and TIES, “Education in Emergencies: Evidence for Action" (3EA) aimed at improving the quality of education and children’s learning and well-being in crisis-affected countries. Additional funding is anticipated for the implementation phase of this initiative. The 3EA initiative will implement and rigorously evaluate a set of contextually appropriate, low-cost interventions targeted at improving children’s stress, executive functioning, and basic literacy skills. With TIES as the research lead and the IRC as the program delivery lead, the 3EA initiative will begin this fall in three emergency contexts: Lebanon, with Syrian refugee children; Niger, with refugee and internally displaced children fleeing Boko Haram; and Sierra Leone, with children affected by the Ebola crisis.
