A Note from Ben Vien, Associate Director for Steinhardt Technology Services

What do you think of when you hear Steinhardt Technology Services?  Thoughts of printers may come to mind, perhaps laptops or iPads even? More often than not a faculty, staff, or researcher just like yourself thinks about IT catastrophes, and that’s perfectly fine.  You think about the nightmarish time you were up against a deadline and your computer decided to not work.  You think about the moment you walked in front of a room full of students and the projector wouldn’t turn on. And you would be right, for it is in those moments where the technicians from Steinhardt Technology Services can sweep in and save the day.  However, we can do so much more and I hope this becomes a bit more transparent today.

So what do we do?

We do everything I just talked about and more.  We do trainings, we help you find a space that meets your needs, we help you enhance your courses, we consult, we hold workshops.  When I began my role as Associate Director, I had 1 goal: to create a one-stop-shop technology group.

  • Let’s build a team of skilled technicians and subject matter experts and create a work environment where the whole is more than the sum of its parts.
  • Let’s be high functioning, and challenge the nay-sayers, challenge the “that’s just not going to fly at NYU”.
  • Let’s be intentional about everything we do and everything we say.  

At a glance

Desktop Support

We support all Steinhardt purchased devices.  This includes desktops, laptops and mobile devices.  We are able to offer basic troubleshooting for most devices in-house and we are able to facilitate service calls with external vendors when needed.

Instructional Support

We support and promote the effective use of technology and design in teaching, research and administrative initiatives. This includes, but is not limited to course and curriculum design (online, hybrid and face to face), best practices, consultations, creation and/or use of digital resources, multimedia and collaboration tools.

System Support

We support, troubleshoot, and maintain Steinhardt information systems for faculty, staff, and research. These systems provide an infrastructure for teaching and research.  This includes, but is not limited to, NYU Active Directory, NYU Wifi, and Steinhardt Remote Apps Server.  

Audio Visual Support

We create, support, and maintain installed technology equipment in all Steinhardt learning spaces as well as provide scheduled and on demand training and demonstrations. We offer troubleshooting support for community members having problems with equipment in the room.
