NYU Event Celebrates Women in Percussion

When undergraduates Rose Egan and Carime Santa-Coloma attended the annual Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) last November, they were surrounded by hundreds of percussionists of all classes and ages.

Among the people they met while networking at the conference was Hit Like a Girl contest winner Lindsay Artkop. Through Lindsay and Hit Like a Girl representatives at PASIC, Rose and Carime learned about this inspiring organization that supports female percussionists.

Back at NYU, Rose and Carime sought to publicly celebrate women in the field of percussion. They took it upon themselves to bring this idea to light, and contacted Hit Like A Girl and KoSA to collaborate and realize the event.

The NYU/KoSA/Hit Like A Girl event was packed with clinics and performances featuring incredibly talented women such as Cherisse Osei, Lindsay Artkop, Terri Lyne Carrington, Reynaliz Herrera, and NYU’s own Valerie Naranjo. The day concluded with a showcase concert.

The NYU/KoSA/Hit Like A Girl Day Of Percussion - Celebrating Women in Percussion was Saturday, February 13, 2016.
