Steinhardt Technology Services offers support for a wide variety of technology needs from desktop support to instructional technology integration into your coursework. While our group is dedicated to supporting the Steinhardt community there are University resources available to supplement the support already provided. The Steinhardt Technology Services team works in close collaboration with University resources to best streamline and leverage the resources available.

Below are three great resources to enhance the technology within your course - these resources are available to both faculty and students within the NYU community.

1 - NYU Bobst Research Librarians:

The NYU Librarians offer research services unique to the subject you’re teaching or researching. Many of their ‘LibGuides’ offer targeted information on the available online databases, electronic resources, and research consultation services.

Recently our group assisted in redesigning a course with the department of Media, Culture, and Communication which depended on utilizing open data sets to come up with a narrative explaining political economies of media: how does media consumption or representation depict the social and or economic environment over a given time period? Our instructional designers teamed up with Data Services within the Bobst Library to help students streamline the process of conducting their research and leveraging new data vizualization tools. Students collaborated with NYU Research Librarians and Data Scientists from Data Services on this assignment.

2 - Innovative collaborative computing lab and working space:
The newly opened LaGuardia Co-op offers a state-of-the-art working space for students. Part of the Student Technology Centers supported by NYU IT, the LaGuardia Co-op include several services, including a computer lab, collaboration space, group study rooms and video recording booths, all for students to access. For faculty, you may reserve the Computer Classroom, which may accommodate up to 25 participants.

Additionally, the LaGuardia Co-op includes the LaGuardia Studio NYU’s 3D printing and digital media services lab. Services, available to all within the NYU community as well as outside patrons, includes 3D printing and scanning, self-service work stations for printing, and project development consultation services.

3- NYU - learn almost anything:

NYU’s access to offers on-demand training resources for a wide variety from computer softwares applications, online webtools (like Google Apps for Education) to strategies for time management and how to conduct effective meetings.

Recently our team leveraged several assetts within NYU when redesigning a course with the department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders: this course is part of a practicum series which prepares students to becomes professionals within the field. The course redesign was to become a ‘blended course’ where resources and materials would be available to students online and in some cases were encouraged to be reviewed before class. To help prepare students for the demands of busy clinical hours, materials were provided exploring time management and managing multiple responsibilities. This allowed for the time spent in class to be dedicated to course content and application of the skills learned prior to class.
