Event: "You are what you eat," a conversation between Graham Harman & Robert Valgenti

Dr. Robert T. Valgenti is associate professor of philosophy at Lebanon Valley College and director of the College Colloquium Series of speakers and films. He has studied at the College of the Holy Cross, Oxford University,Università di Torino as a Fulbright Scholar, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and DePaul University. His research interests include the philosophy of food, contemporary Italian philosophy, 19th and 20th Century Continental philosophy and hermeneutics. He is the translator of several essays and books by Italian philosophers, and his recentpublications include essays on the ontology of genetically modified organisms, a critique of hermeneutic communism, and the philosophy of Gianni Vattimo. He is currently writing a book about the transformation of philosophy through mindful eating entitled Conceptual Metabolism. 

Graham Harman is associate provost for research administration and professor in the Department of Philosophy, having come to the American University of Cairo from Chicago in 2000. He is the 2009 winner of the AUC Excellence in Research and Creative Endeavors Award. Harman is the author of nine books, most recently The Quadruple Object and Quentin Meillassoux: Philosophy in the Making, both published in 2011. He is the editor of the Speculative Realism book series at Edinburgh University Press, and (with Bruno Latour) co-editor of the New Metaphysics book series at Open Humanities Press. He is a former Chicago sportswriter, an avid world traveller and a sixth-generation native of Iowa.
