Summer Institute for Woodwind Studies

Spend a week in New York City at New York University performing, collaborating, and creating music with renowned NYU faculty and music industry professionals.  Your daily routine will consist of a variety of musical activities including focus on auditon coaching, chamber music, electronic media, lessons, and masterclasses. Our Summer Institute for Woodwinds offers participants the opportunity to work on performance in addition to enhancing various skills of today’s successful musicians need.

The audition workshop will give you the skills you need to forge ahead with confidence! Under the guidance of NYU string faculty members, many of whom have won major competitions and orchestral auditions, you will spend your days putting together the elements needed for a successful audition. Faculty will assist you in preparing solo Bach, concerti, orchestral excerpts, showpieces and etudes. You will learn sports psychology techniques to help deal with performance anxiety such as centering, mental practice and the perfect formula for audition preparation.

Late applications will be accepted after the final deadline for students who are not in need of on-campus housing.

New Program Offerings!
Dr. Paul Cohen's Summer Saxophone Institute, formerly of New York Summer Music Festival, is moving to the 2017 NYU Summer Institute for Woodwind Studies! This program will take place along with the Institute for Woodwind Studies, giving saxophone students the opportunity to collaborate with woodwind students and faculty participating in the program. 

Instruments Accepted:
This year the Summer Institute for Woodwind Studies will be accepting students who study flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, and horn. 

Throughout the week, students participating in the Woodwind Institute will be exposed to an array of chamber music and small ensemble performance opportunities in New York City. Each student will participate in masterclasses with focus on their primary instrument. The program will conclude with a participant concert in the historic Loewe Theater.
