New Era of Village Records

New Era of Village Records

As described in the about page, Village Records previously operated as a student run record label. Currently, our primary job is to offer various services to artists we partner with in order to further their development. Our most recent successes are listed below:

Fall 2018

This semester the Village Records class worked with alternative R&B group Haiku and helped them release their single "Strawberry Honey." Haiku is a band grounded in R&B with strong jazz and hip-hop influences, creating a dynamic and positive vibe that integrates poetry, art, and photography. Formed at NYU in 2017 by vocalist Kat Aman and guitarist Connor Sandstrom, Haiku quickly grew to a full band with the additions of pianist Derin Caglar, bassist Morgan Guerin, and drummer Jacob Patrone.

Spring 2016

The class decided to work with its first hip hop artist, a fellow NYU student named Chris Hearn who goes by Ceezar. Village Records helped Ceezar release his first single, "Celebration."

Fall 2015

Village Records worked with Lond Island multi-instrumentalist Kevin Burke this semester. The Village Records team worked with Kevin's manager to pitch press coverage, write bios, and design EPKs. The class highlight was filming a performance in the NYU Kimmel Center.

Fall 2014

This semester was a very productive one for Village Records. Not only did we work with two great artists, but we also established a new brand identity, updating and streamlining all of our marketing and press materials. Our team coordinated some time in the James L. Dolan Recording Studio with Cape Town, South Africa-based band Christian Tiger School as part of The CMJ Sessions @ NYU. We also began working with the Queens-based duo Broken Luxury to book them studio time in the semester to come. We're very excited about the work we accomplished this Fall and can't wait to see what happens in the future with both of these artists.

Spring 2014

During this semester, Village Records partnered with former NYU Clive Davis student, Kiah Victoria. The class’s time with Kiah proved to be a huge success. The team aided in promoting her various ventures, including her shows at Joe’s Pub. Before hand, the team planned a live-streamed acoustic concert from NYU’s own Washington Square Park in order to get the word out about the performances. The preview for this acoustic performance can be found here. The Village Records team continues to keep in contact with the talented artist.

Fall 2013

For the fall semesters, Village Records has started partnering with CMJ Music Marathon. This partnership includes working with a CMJ artist, promoting them through various socials, and during this semester, Village Records had the pleasure of documenting their time through a series of three articles on Billboard. The articles can be found below.

The artist the team chose to work with was the Australian band, Tigertown. In conjunction with the Dolan Studios, Village Records recorded the band’s latest single “What You Came Here For” and filmed it for the band to post.
