Marthaa Torres


Marthaa Torres is an experienced urban school educator. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Education and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy, both from Stanford University. Prior to coming to Steinhardt, she served as a high school principal, math teacher, and teacher coach.

Her professional interests include improving secondary outcomes for African American students and emergent bilinguals, innovation in a school context, and the discourse between pre-service teachers and their teaching mentors. She has served as a teaching mentor to graduate students from Stanford University, San Francisco State University, and the University of San Francisco. As a principal in the San Francisco Unified School District, she was appointed to the Superintendent’s Fellows from 2014 to 2016, and was a charter member of the district’s Innovation Team from 2014 to 2017. She also serves as a coach to principal fellows as part of the K12 Lab Network at the Stanford d.school.
