About the NYU Children's Chorus
The NYU Children’s Chorus, under the direction of Carol Beadle, is an outreach of the University to the children and the parents of the community. In the chorus, the singers will learn proper vocal technique, musicianship, and quality repertoire. They will also have the opportunity to sing and perform.
Who Can Join
The program is free of charge, and is open to any young singer between the ages of six and twelve (grades 1-6). Children must be 6 years old at the beginning of the school year to be a part of the group. There are also no auditions or fees required. There is no limit or waitlist. All are welcome!
We are thrilled to announce that the administration of NYU Steinhardt Music and Arts Performing Arts Professions has approved to have the NYU Children’s Chorus continue during the Fall 2020 semester! Unfortunately, we will not be able to meet in-person due to space restrictions, budget restrictions, and overall safety concerns. However, we will have virtual rehearsals via Zoom once a week. There will be no in-person end-of-semester concert. We will decide in December if the remainder of the school year will be virtual or will return to in-person rehearsals.
Rehearsals will be via Zoom on Tuesdays starting on September 8 and going until December 8. Tuesday schedules are:
Novice (ages 6, 7, 8) from 4:00-4:45
Apprentice (ages 9, 10, 11, 12) from 5:00-5:45
Adult Choir (family and friends of the program age 13 and older) from 4:00-4:50 - subject to change based on parents' availability.
Registration is now open for the Fall 2020-Spring 2021 academic school year! It will remain open until August 31, 2020. New AND returning singers for both the Children’s Chorus and Adult Choir must fill out the registration link.
When things get back to normal...
The NYU Children’s Chorus meets every Tuesday during the NYU Fall and Spring semesters. The Novice Chorus meets from 4:00-4:50 and the Apprentice Chorus meets from 4:55-5:50 at the Frederick Loewe Theatre at 35 West 4th St. We perform a final concert in Skirball at the end of each semester (December and May).
