Fields of Specialization in International Education

Choose and complete one Field of Specialization track.
International Development and Education/Peace, Conflict Track
Focus is on understanding the challenges and opportunities of education in international development contexts and/or in crisis and conflict-affected contexts and preparing students to work in these fields in government agencies, NGOs, foundations and beyond.
Cross Cultural Exchange and Study Abroad Track
Focus is on public and private educational and cultural organizations that sponsor and conduct international cultural and educational exchanges and cross cultural training, or universities, colleges, schools, and educational agencies that foster global understanding through study abroad programs and other educational exchange opportunities.
Internship and Culminating Experience

6 – 10 Credits
Working closely with your advisor, you will select electives that complement the required courses in the International Education program and that are meaningful to you and your academic and career goals. Students select 6-10 credits of electives from the program, department, or across the University to support their field of specialization track, deepen their research and career-related skills, or develop further expertise. You may also opt to take additional field of specialization/track courses listed above, or complete both fields of specialization tracks.
Finally, students in this variable credit degree may opt to take up to 8 additional credits of specialization electives should they choose to take more than the minimum of 32 credits.
Students may also fulfill this requirement through NYU Steinhardt's global study programs, which are periodically offered in January, over spring break, or during the summer, including the International Education study abroad opportunities during the summer in Ghana.
Students may choose electives from across Steinhardt, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, and others.
