  • Description: The study trip to Israel is designed to provide graduate students with an opportunity to examine Israel?s higher education system & to discover & analyze similarities & differences in comparison to higher education in the United States. Through visits to universities & public & private colleges, we will engage in discussions with rectors, faculty members, deans of students & their staffs, & students themselves. Special lectures with sociologists & national officials will help us understand the goals & future aspirations of Israeli higher education & how higher education meets the social & political, & cultural needs of society. In addition to meeting on the campus in New York, students will participate in a series of site visits in Israel that will provide an in-depth case study of its higher education. The course includes lectures from scholars & visits to 6 Israeli colleges & universities to meet with faculty, administrators, & students. Additional sessions will be held with directors of the National Council on Higher Education & a recent government commission on the future of higher education. Topics will include curricular options, admissions requirements, distribution of students by class & ethnic group, college climate, & services offered.
