Advanced Certificate in Studio Art

intended audience

We regret that applications are not currently being accepted for the Advanced Certificate Program in Studio Art while it is under faculty review.

This program is intended for dedicated artists with considerable studio art experience. Applicants to the program may be individuals with a BA, BS, BFA, or MA; individuals with an MFA who want to spend time working with artists in New York City; international students seeking additional studio experience to prepare a portfolio; or art teachers completing additional professional requirements.

Given the extremely competitive nature of entrance to MFA Studio Art programs across the country and internationally, the Advanced Certificate provides prospective MFA applicants with additional training in contemporary art and theory as a means of expanding their artistic skills and improving their portfolios.

Advanced training in contemporary artistic practice and theory through the Advanced Certificate program is also of direct benefit to art teachers, including those completing additional credits to fulfill professional requirements within their school districts. (Such as the "Masters Degree Plus-30" in the New York City Department of Education.) With contemporary art assuming a more central role in translating social and historical change into human experience, art education practitioners increasingly require training and exposure to contemporary artistic practice and theory. This program will also allow art teachers to address individual gaps in artistic knowledge and gain skills in the latest developments in art technologies.
