Samantha Shapses Wertheim

Samantha Shapses Wertheim is a higher education professional committed to engaging students, faculty and administrators in the practice of social justice education. She currently serves as the Associate Dean of Students at Columbia University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and as Adjunct Faculty in the Higher Education and Student Affairs program at New York University. Samantha holds a B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis, a M.A. from New York University in Higher Education and Student Affairs and an Ed.D. from New York University in Higher and Post Secondary Education. Her research explores how students make meaning of cross-racial interaction on the college campus, social justice education and pedagogy and white privilege.

Samantha is a trained facilitator and coach of Intergroup Dialogue, a method of creating cross-cultural communication through sustained dialogue. Throughout her work as a practitioner Samantha has focused on student development, student involvement, academic and student affairs, cross-cultural communication, and creating opportunities for exploration of issues pertaining to social justice.
