School Programs: School Programs encompasses on- and offsite school assembly programs and single- or multi-session programs to public, private and parochial schools; direct services for students and professional development for teachers; partnerships with colleges; and a variety of collaborations that serve school-age children. While meeting national, state and city science and arts standards, hallmarks of our curricula include creativity, innovation and excellence. School Programs highlight the natural world as a living laboratory full of opportunities for exploration and discovery at Wave Hill and in local neighborhoods. Our primary goal is to act as catalyst to get children outdoors for real-world learning. Wave Hill advocates for experiential, inquiry-based learning and regular access to and exploration of nature in the urban environment.

 

Roles and Responsibilities: Wave Hill is looking for a highly motivated individual to plan, develop, teach and evaluate environmental education programs for students grades K-8 and should be knowledgeable of science content and familiar with mandated learning standards. This person must be interested in working in a fun environment while being productive and efficient. This educator will report to the School Programs Manager to develop and implement a wide variety of garden, art and nature-based programming. In addition they will assist with and teach college level courses where teachers have the opportunities to make strong connections between environmental education methods and best practices by integrating science and art into their curricula. Other duties are required as deemed necessary. This full-time position is 35 hours per week with benefits, Monday-Friday with occasional weekends required.

 

Requirements:

· Master's degree preferred

· Background in education, garden interpretation or related field

· Drivers license is required and willingness to drive in urban areas

· Previous inquiry-based teaching and knowledge of how children learn

· Programming experience in museum or outdoor settings

· Experience with theatre preferred

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and comfort presenting to large groups

· Experience with special needs audiences preferred

· Proficiency in Spanish is a plus

 

Salary: High 20k's to low 30k's with full benefits
