Who We Are
Satellite Academy is transfer high school devoted to transforming young minds and lives through education. We have four locations: 2 in Manhattan, 1 in the Bronx and 1 in Queens. Our school is dedicated to providing students who are at least 16 years old with an opportunity to earn their high school diploma in a smaller, student centered learning community. Our mission has always been to help students improve their attendance, become active learners and graduate with full capability for future success. Because we are a Performance Assessment School, students need only pass the English Language Arts Regents exam. Students must present portfolios in Global History, US History, Math and Science in order to meet the state graduation requirement. All members of our community find that Satellite Academy is a school where growth and effort lead to success.
Why Satellite?
Teachers enjoy professional freedom at Satellite. The environment is highly collaborative as we use a school-based management system. Teachers have a lot of input in the direction the school goes. People are valued here. The administration values the hard work from the school staff. More importantly, the students value the work of their teaches. You can really see the difference you make in the lives of the students.
You should know...
The school uses performance based assessment instead of Regents Exams. This requires teachers to develop curriculum based on the school's performance standards. Each teacher heads an advisory that meets everyday and takes as much planning as a traditional class. Teachers are responsible for administrative tasks beyond teaching ie: planning school events, assisting in admissions, etc.
