Mission: Going Coastal is a grassroots volunteer organization dedicated to
connecting people to coastal resources by raising awareness of the
immense value of the coastal environment by publishing books and
producing community outreach programs.
Description and/or History: Programming addresses three major themes: Clean Water, Water Access & Safety, and Maritime Heritage.
Internship: Survey Brooklyn's Waterfront
Description: Help us survey the Brooklyn waterfront! Going Coastal is seeking
volunteers to help conduct surveys with anglers fishing on the Brooklyn
shore. Surveyors will select a portion of the Brooklyn coast to survey over a
month's time to determine the "who, what, where, and how" of fishing here.
Specifically, we want to know if people are eating what they catch and are
aware of the fish consumption health guidelines. We are mapping a Geographic Information System (GIS) of fishing habits and you will contribute to determining the best way to communicate the health risks of consuming locally caught fish.
Requirements: Spanish and Chinese speakers needed.
Location: Brooklyn
