The CMJ Sessions @ NYU: Bouts

A groundbreaking new multi-media partnership announced by CMJ and NYU/Steinhardt puts a revolutionary new spin on artistic collaboration and musical discovery. Students and faculty from NYU/Steinhardt's Music Business and Music Technology programs team up with CMJ to find, support, and help advance the careers of emerging indie bands. The CMJ Sessions @ NYU provides an opportunity for selected bands to record their tunes in the world-class James Dolan studios on NYU’s Greenwich Village campus. Students and faculty collaborate with the band and CMJ in the process of A&R, recording, and mixing. A professional video team captures the action in a short-form video that is released, along with the band's track, by CMJ and NYU.

Here's what makes this partnership unique:
- The relationship with the band can grow to include additional involvement with NYU Steinhardt's Music Business academic program
- Bands will be eligible to be booked for performances at CMJ Music Marathon
- The bands own all rights to the new recording.

Bouts are modern pop-grunge noisemakers. A bracing blend of Weezer, Pavement and Dinosaur Jr. They've also been compared to a “younger, less polished Bloc Party, but with even more alt-rock muscle” ( Their sharp melodic edge has seen them garner praise from BBC 6 Music's Lauren Laverne, play New York's CMJ Festival a short year after their first release and gain write-ups in the Huffington Post. They're currently recording their debut full band album with a prospective Autumn 2013 release date.
