Admissions
Admission is for the Fall and Spring terms.
All students admitted to the Masters program in Social Studies Education will have completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following areas: history, geography, economics, or political science/government. In addition, students must have completed at least a total of 15 semester hours of study in the history and/or geography of the U.S. and the world (the remaining 6 credit hours will be taken as part of our program), 3 semester hours of study in economics, 3 semester hours of study in politics, 3 semester hours of study in an another area within the social studies, and a semester of study of a language other than English.
In certain instances, the program will accept students who have not satisfied all of the above requirements. In these cases, such students will be required to complete at NYU all outstanding coursework, in addition to their program requirements, prior to their graduation from NYU.
Special Note: Woodrow Wilson-Rockefeller Brothers Fund Fellowships for Aspiring Teachers of Color
This nationally competitive Fellowship program offers support for students of color to complete a master's degree program in education and become excellent educators who ensure student success in high-need schools. NYU is both a nominating institution for graduating seniors who wish to apply for this Fellowship program and a recipient institution for successful applicants who are awarded the Fellowship for their graduate education.
