Orit Zaslavsky
Orit Zaslavsky's research focuses on mathematics teacher education. She has been among the first scholars to study the development of teacher-educators, from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Within this broad research domain, she has investigated and conceptualized the nature of productive mathematics-related tasks and examples. One of the outcomes of a 3-year ISF (Israel Science Foundation) research grant that she received was a conceptual framework that accounts for teachers' choice and use of examples as part of their craft knowledge. In addition to numerous publications in leading journals and books in the field, Zaslavsky's contributions include a special triple-issue of JMTE (Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education) entitled 'The Role and Nature of Mathematics-Related Tasks for Teacher Education', and an edited book on productive tasks for secondary mathematics teacher education. She has served as an associate editor of JMTE. Zaslavsky directed major professional development projects for secondary mathematics teachers in Israel, including a large-scale project that aimed at fostering excellence in mathematics at the junior high school level. Zaslavsky received her doctorate from the Technion, Haifa (Israel Institute of Technology) in 1987, to where she returned as faculty member after two years as post doctorate fellow at LRDC, University of Pittsburgh.
