BA in Science and MA in Teaching Science, Grades 7-12, Initial Certification: Clinically Rich Integrated Science Program (CRISP)
We are not currently accepting applications for this accelerated MA program while the faculty undertake a review of the curriculum.
How you'll learn
The Clinically Rich Integrated Science Program (CRISP) is a one-year teacher residency program that prepares career changers and college graduates to become science teachers in urban public schools. The MA curriculum immerses aspiring teachers in the science classroom and integrates theory, practice, and science content into daily teaching and learning experiences.
Key features of the CRISP program include:
- Immersion in a public school classroom for a full school year
- Increasing responsibility as a classroom teacher – from observing and assisting to co-teaching full classes
- Dual focus on groups of learners and individual learners
- Focused explorations of other classrooms, learning environments, and schools around New York City
- Academic courses offered on site in host schools
- Campus-based courses and networking
- Technology-infused curriculum to help you integrate multimedia learning into your own classroom practice
Am I eligible to apply to this program?
College of Arts and Science students majoring in the following science fields are eligible for this accelerated option:
- Environmental Studies with a focus on science
- Neural Science
Students complete 3 credits of the 35 credits required for the MA while they are still undergraduates in the College of Arts and Science.
Students must complete all requirements of their major as well as College-wide requirements prior to matriculating for the MA degree program at Steinhardt.
Visit the CAS BA/MA website for a complete description of eligibility requirements, program structure, a FAQ, and information on financial aid.
Start your master's degree in your last year as an undergraduate
During your senior year as a CAS science major, you'll complete TCHL GE 2010: Inquiries into Teaching and Learning, a 3-credit graduate course that counts toward your BA degree. You will take this course in place of another elective.
Complete the MA program of study in only one year
You will complete the remaining 32 credits for the MA degree in CRISP as outlined in the program of study, with the exception of Inquiries into Teaching and Learning, which you will have completed during your senior year.
