Accelerated BA/MA Teacher Education Programs

The application process to any of the BA/MA Teacher Education dual-degree programs consists of two parts:

  1. A pre-application to the BA/MA track in your selected field
  2. formal application to Steinhardt for graduate study

After completing three semesters in CAS (one semester for transfer students) and declaring an eligible major, students may apply to one of the BA/MA Teacher Education tracks by submitting an online pre-application. You can find full details on this process, along with pre-application deadlines and eligibility requirements, on the CAS BA/MA website.

Admission to any of the BA/MA Teacher Education tracks does not guarantee admission to Steinhardt.

Graduate Application to Steinhardt

For formal admission to Steinhardt, seniors must also submit the Steinhardt graduate application prior to graduating from CAS.

Steinhardt’s admission process seeks to identify individuals who have the potential to do advanced graduate-level work, a demonstrated potential for teaching, and an interest in urban education through relevant coursework in their subject area and extracurricular volunteer or work experience with children or youth, such as tutoring independently or through a sponsored program like America Reads/Counts, being a camp counselor, or working in an afterschool program.

Please apply for graduate admission no later than February 1 for summer/fall matriculation only.

All components of the application, including statement of purpose, resume, NYU transcript, letters of recommendation and GRE scores must be received before the application packet is considered complete for review.

As of October 2015, the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) isrequired for all students wishing to begin MA studies in the program as of Fall 2016.

Financial Aid:
You must  file a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for scholarships and other forms of aid by no later than February 1.

Students will typically receive email notification of admission to the Steinhardt School by April 1 for Fall matriculation or December 15 for Spring matriculation. The admission notification will also include information on how to contact the master's students advisor in order to register for the upcoming semester's courses and participate in orientation activities.
