Steinhardt New York State Certification Online Application Instructions including Student Application Information Sheet and Program Codes
Below please find downloadable online application instructions for New York State Certification for post-February 2004 (post-September 2006 for School Building Leader and School District Leader) graduates of each of the Steinhardt departments/programs offering NYS approved certification programs. There are separate applications for Initial and Professional Certification as well as Provisional and Permanent for School Counselor only. For certificate type distinctions, please click here. Initial Certification
The applications and program codes below are only to be used by post-February 2004 graduates, post-September 2006 for School Building Leader.

Professional Certification
The Professional Certification applications below are to be used only if you've completed a Steinhardt MA, MS or Adv Cert post-February 2004 (post-September 2006 for School Building Leader and School District Leader) in the same area in which you are applying.
If you've completed a Steinhardt BS degree that led to Initial Certification and you've now completed a masters in another area or at another institution, you'll apply to the NYSED through the Certificate Progression pathway, see details here. You will not enter a program code but instead check the "no" box. Certificate Progression is also the correct pathway for certificate(s) achieved through a BS degree at another institution that led to Initial Certification and you've now completed a masters in another certificate area with Steinhardt.
Please be advised that if you use a code that does not pertain to the MA degree completed through Steinhardt, your certificate will not issue as you will not be recommended for Professional Certification in that area.
