You can pay your housing and activity fees in person or by mail by check, credit card, or money order in the Office of Academic Initiatives and Global Programs, Pless Hall 5^th Floor, from 9 am to 5 pm Monday - Friday.  Please note that the university accepts Visa, MasterCard and American Express. 

The courses are open to both graduate students currently enrolled at New York University or, with permission, at another university, and to non-degree students or working professionals who hold a bachelor's degree.  Undergraduate students in their senior year may enroll in certain programs with permission from the course faculty and their faculty advisors.

Summer 2009 courses are eligible for financial aid, and can be considered part of the 2008-2009 academic year or the 2009-2010 academic year.  Current NYU students should contact the Financial Aid office to determine your financial aid package for the year: 212-998-4444 (www.nyu.edu/financial.aid/).  Non-NYU students should contact the Financial Aid office of their home university to determine what financial aid is available for summer study abroad with NYU.  

The Office of Global Programs and Academic Initiatives will hold information sessions for our summer study abroad programs late in the fall semester or early in the spring semester.  We will announce dates for these sessions by e-mail and on our website.  Location-specific mandatory orientation sessions will be held this spring.  At the required site-specific orientation sessions, you will discuss course material and important cultural, health and safety, and logistical issues with your professor(s) and classmates.  You will be notified of the date, time,and location by email.

International students are welcome to participate in Steinhardt's summer study abroad programs. However, you may have additional visa requirements that require advance planning. Program countries have differing visa requirements and it is your responsibility to determine whether or not you need a visa, and to obtain the visa if required.  Plan ahead to allow yourself sufficient time for this process.

Airfare:

We cannot be held responsible for tickets if a course is cancelled. If you decide to withdraw from the class, YOU are responsible for covering your airfare.  If the course is cancelled for any reason, we encourage you to talk to the airline company about refund or credit for the trip. Please do not purchase your ticket if there is any possibility that the course will not run.  Refund policies vary by airline and fare, so review your ticket's policy before purchasing. Please call us if you are concerned about the course.        

Yes! You must have a passport that is valid for 6 months after your date of re-entry to the U.S.  If you do not have a passport or need to renew your passport, do so immediately.  It can take more than eight weeks.  Visas are necessary for U.S. citizens for some programs.  International students should contact the Office of International Students and Scholars at (212) 998-4720 to find out if they need visas and for information on re-entering the U.S.

You can get a passport application form (DSP-II Passport Application) from most post offices or you can download one from the State Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs website at travel.state.gov/passport. You must apply for a passport in person as far in advance as possible to allow maximum time for processing. There is a $100 fee for a new passport and a $75 fee for renewing one. Students are encouraged to arrange their own travel plans, either through an agency or online.  Some programs do have optional group flights, and program participants will receive detailed information if a group flight is offered.

Yes, we will hold information sessions in the Fall semester.  The September 12 and 26 sessions will take place in Kimball Lounge, 1st Floor, 246 Greene Street at Waverly.  The October 8 session will take place in the 3rd floor lounge of Pless Hall, 82 Washington Square East.

The information session will serve as a time for you to meet course instructors and Global Programs staff and to ask them questions concerning the trip.

If you have been accepted into NYU to start in the Spring Semester as a regular student, you may enroll in a January Intersession course as part of your Spring course load. If you are only interested in taking an Intersession course at NYU and have already completed at least a Bachlor's degree at NYU or another accredited institution, you can enroll as a Special Student. Special students have a different application to submit for January Intersession courses than current NYU students.
